Shona & Ed’s Pre-wedding Shoot

I went to meet Shona and Ed for my first pre-wedding shoot of 2010 today. It was a cold, crisp winter’s day in Surrey at just 3c, cold enough that the lake by the church was partially frozen. Shona and Ed are great fun, easy to work with and were very relaxed in front of the camera. I’m really looking forward to the wedding, which is just shy of 6 weeks away now, I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!

San Francisco

I took a trip to San Francisco back in 2008 on business. It was a two week stay and during the middle weekend, I decided to hire a bike and go cycling with my camera. I had no idea where I was going, I just knew that I wanted to see the Golden Gate bridge, the Pacific and Geary Boulevard. I marvelled to see my surname on the signs, embedded in the concrete and on shop fronts, but I hadn’t realised how long Geary Boulevard was.

I ended up cycling 17 miles taking in my chosen sights that day.

This culminated in an appetite I’ve never known before which I satisfied at Jonny Rocket’s diner with two, yes two chocolate milkshakes, a burger and fries. I overate and overdrank but they were damn good shakes.

Snowy Chalgrove

Went to see my nephew, Jamie, this weekend and celebrate my Dad’s birthday. Oxford has about as much snow as we do in Basingstoke but the roads were clear enough so the journey was no problem. We took Jamie out on the sledge which he was somewhat reluctant to get on at first. Naturally, I led the way although I’ve put on a little weight since my Dad last pulled me along. No, it was the rusty runners that stopped it… honest! After a while, Jamie got into the whole sledging thing and despite the absence of slopage in Chalgrove, he seemed to get right into it.

Not quite as dramatic as “Frozen Britain” but anyway… Happy (if a tad chilly) New Year! I’m very much looking forward to 2010 and to the four weddings I have booked for the year so far. But before that, we have some snow and ice to contend with. Winter is quite possibly my favourite of all nature’s seasons because it transforms the world into a beautiful pure white landscape. And we’ve had a truck load this year, just shy of a foot in Chineham. It’s like we’re in some ski resort, the snow even sounds like it! Pity I haven’t got any ski boots at the moment or I’d so ski to Tesco!

Christmas 2009

Keily and I spent a wonderful white Christmas with her family up in Durham. It was nearly 4 days but it went in a flash! Good food, good wine and great company, what could be better?! We went out in the snow and took the dog for a walk which was amusing as she was nearly half buried as she walked. We had some time with my family in Oxford on the way back for more good food and wine. I was given Wii Sports Resort – its even better than Wii Sports, lots of fun for everyone. Even my Dad played bowling and archery! V. impressed :)

No pressure… a photoshoot for a photographer! And a mighty fine one too! Mark’s travel photography is absolutely stunning and should be, in my opinion, in books like Lonely Planet etc. This shoot was my toughest challenge yet as Mark’s daughter is just 8 weeks old. She is fascinated by lights so my softbox and HiLite background had her in a state of awe. This was a little inconvenient as we tried every trick in the book to make her smile and laugh but she wasn’t having it. Mmmm lights.

Gridlock in Basingstoke!

A little snow, well, it was a reasonable amount actually, brought Basingstoke and other towns to a standstill. My journey from Bracknell, normally a 35 minute journey, took nearly 5 hours last night. I left at 2.30pm and got in just after 7pm. Beautiful as it was, being stuck in the car only 2 miles from home was so frustrating. I feel for all those people, though, that had to spend the night in their cars or in other shelter away from home. I felt very lucky to be home with my wife.

Aka Madison’s photoshoot! My favourite subject is back, although strangely somewhat less interested in being photographed today. I had to question if this was the real Madison before me but she promptly threw some plastic balls at me and I knew it was her! Despite her apparent semi-reluctance, I think she was more than happy to pose and we got some great shots. I suspect this was somewhat helped by the presence of the TV screen opposite the shooting area so she could check herself out as I took pictures. Vanity is alive and well :D

Second shoot of the weekend was with my good friends The Hayes’ on Sunday. I brought a selection of coloured plastic balls for amusement and the kids quickly distributed them around the house with consummate ease! I had great fun with the youngsters who are certainly not at all shy and one who shall remain nameless seems to think everyone has a pie on their face! This was the source of much laughter and big smiles! Here are the best from the afternoon…
